PETALING JAYA, 3 DECEMBER 2024- MCIS Insurance Berhad (“MCIS Life”), in collaboration with Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), has launched a tree planting initiative, aimed at reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability and promoting positive community engagement. 

The event, held in conjunction with MBPJ’s Hari Terbuka Taman Jaya 2024 at Taman Jaya Park, was officiated by Hj. Zahri bin Hj. Samingon, Mayor of Petaling Jaya. They were joined by Mohammad Nizar Idris, Chairman of MCIS Life, Prasheem Seebran, Chief Executive Officer of MCIS Life, LAr. Dr. Badrulzaman bin Jaafar, Director of the Landscape Department of Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), alongside senior management of MCIS Life, local government officials, and community members. Together, they planted trees to contribute to a greener, healthier future.

The initiative marks another step in MCIS Life’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and understanding the environmental challenges we face including deforestation and climate change. By planting these trees, MCIS Life aims to inspire collective action to preserve Malaysia’s natural resources and reduce the carbon footprint.

The tree planting will help mitigate the effects of climate change by improving air quality and promoting biodiversity. Each tree serves as a symbol of the collective responsibility among individuals, communities, and businesses in safeguarding the planet. The event is also part of MCIS Life's broader commitment to sustainability and corporate social responsibility, which continues to be a core part of the company's mission.

Samingon, the Mayor of Petaling Jaya, highlighted the significance of the event, stating, “This program brings immense benefits, including mitigating the effects of climate change by enhancing air quality and enriching biodiversity. Beyond its environmental impact, it promotes a healthy lifestyle and nurtures a deeper appreciation for nature. I hope this initiative can be institutionalized as an annual program by MBPJ.” 
 
He further emphasized that MBPJ warmly supports such initiatives, as they encourage the residents of Petaling Jaya to foster a strong sense of community and awareness of the importance of communal living, ultimately contributing to the development of a harmonious and thriving society.
 
In line with this vision, MCIS Life has launched projects like the MCIS Life Legacy Forest at Sireh Park, Iskandar Puteri, Johor where the company contributed RM1 million to plant endemic rainforest trees, further demonstrating its dedication to preserving Malaysia’s natural heritage. Over 6,000 endemic rainforest trees were planted at the park, which is expected to offset approximately 567 tons of carbon by 2029 as the trees mature.
 
Beyond its environmental initiatives, MCIS Life is committed to raising awareness about cancer, promoting early detection and prevention, and offering complimentary cancer screenings to the public through the MCIS Life Purple Truck. This initiative is made possible through a collaboration with the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM). At the launch event, the MCIS Life Purple Truck offered free screenings for lung cancer, colon cancer, Hepatitis B and C, and HPV vaccines for individuals aged 13 to 45. The goal of this initiative is to deliver essential health services to communities, encouraging early detection and proactive prevention of life-threatening conditions.
 
To date, the MCIS Life Purple Truck has conducted over 19,000 screenings nationwide, empowering individuals to identify potential health concerns early and take preventive measures for a healthier future.
